Blade Runner 2049 review
A replicant blade runner uncovers a secret that could collapse the distinction between human and manufactured. Patient, beautiful, and uninterested in…
★★★★½ 4.7/5
Villeneuve moved from Quebecois independent cinema to large-scale science fiction without losing his interest in atmosphere and silence. His films are slow, wide, and concerned with the cost of systems — prisons, cartels, empires, resource extraction. He is unusual among blockbuster directors in his willingness to let scenes run without dialogue and his commitment to practical production design.

The first half of Frank Herbert's novel, adapted with unusual fidelity and an extraordinary sense of scale. Patient, enormous, and confident.
