Hayao Miyazaki

Miyazaki co-founded Studio Ghibli in 1985 and has directed the majority of its defining works. His films are hand-drawn, environmentally concerned, and organised around young protagonists who must take on adult responsibility. He is one of the few directors working at scale whose visual imagination is entirely his own, and his influence on animation worldwide is difficult to overstate.
