Editorial policy

This page sets out the standards we hold ourselves to, how we handle conflicts of interest, and how you can hold us to them. It was last reviewed on 2026-10-08.

Independence

AJ Movie Reviews is editorially independent. No advertiser, distributor, studio, publicist or platform has any influence over what we cover, how we cover it, or what score we give. We do not run sponsored reviews, sponsored rankings, or paid placements of any kind.

We do not accept payment, gifts, travel, accommodation, or hospitality from film distributors or their representatives in exchange for coverage. Where a distributor provides early access to a film, we disclose it in the review itself and it has no bearing on the score.

Funding

The site is funded by display advertising and by readers. Advertising is served programmatically and is not targeted by editorial subject. We do not accept advertising from film distributors for placement alongside our own coverage of their releases.

Authorship and bylines

Every review carries a byline and links to the author's profile, which lists their specialisms and their complete body of work on this site. We do not publish reviews under a house name, and we do not attribute work to authors who did not write it.

Authors are expected to have watched the film in full at least once before writing. Reviews of films watched at press screenings are marked as such.

Accuracy

We check credits, release dates, runtimes and technical details against primary sources. Where we rely on secondary reporting we say so. If we get a fact wrong, we correct it promptly and note the correction at the foot of the article with the date.

Scores are only changed when we rewatch a film and change our mind. When that happens we state that the score has been revised, and why. We do not silently edit numbers.

Originality and copyright

All written content on this site is original and owned by AJ Movie Reviews. All poster artwork on this site is generated by our own design system and is not reproduced from studio marketing material, film stills, or third-party photography. We do not publish copyrighted stills or promotional imagery.

Short quotations from reviews and transcripts are permitted with attribution and a link back to the source page. See our terms of use for the full position.

Comments and correspondence

We do not host user comments, which means we do not moderate a comment section. We do read and respond to email. Substantive disagreements with our scores are welcome, and we publish the more interesting ones in a periodic corrections and responses round-up.

Corrections procedure

To request a correction, email our editors with the page URL, the specific claim you believe is wrong, and a source. We aim to respond within five working days. Accepted corrections are applied to the article and noted at the foot of the page with the date and a brief description of what changed.

AI and automation

Reviews, rankings, transcripts and analysis on this site are written by named human authors. We do not publish automatically generated reviews. Our poster artwork is produced by a documented design system rather than by a generative image model, which is why the collection has a consistent visual identity.

Frequently asked questions

Do you accept free tickets or screenings?

We accept press screening access when offered and disclose it. We do not accept paid travel or accommodation from distributors, and access never influences a score.

Can I republish one of your reviews?

Not in full. Short quotations with attribution and a link are fine. For anything more, contact us. Details are in our terms of use.

How do you choose which films to review?

By whether we have something specific to say. We are not a release calendar. Suggestions from readers are welcome and we act on a reasonable number of them.

Where do your images come from?

They are generated by our own design system, which builds original artwork for each film from a consistent palette and geometric template. We do not use film stills or studio posters.
